Most children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are diagnosed around ages 3-4. Sometimes the diagnosis can be delayed, but almost all children are diagnosed by age 6. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that links autism and vaccines. Vaccinations are not the cause for the rise in ASD diagnosis. In fact the original study linking vaccines and autism has been retracted from the original medical journal that published it, and the doctor who has published the paper has been disbarred from medicine in the UK. The ABC news article stating this can be found here: ABC News

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/AutismNews/autism-vaccines-lancet-retracts-controversial-autism-paper/story?id=9730805#.T6J2Gu18DfA

The CDC released new information about the autism epidemic on March 29, 2012. Now 1 out of 88 children are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is up from 1 out of 110 children just a couple of years ago. We have a serious problem. Autism is the fastest growing childhood disorder to date.

Autism Statistics 2000 - 2008

I am updating the information with the new report. I left the information on the chart from 2006. The 2008 in the last column indicates the updated CDC data released March 29, 2012.

I'm pulling this information from the CDC website on March 29, 2011.
CDC. Community Report From the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. 2008.

Most children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are diagnosed around ages 3-4. ?Sometimes the diagnosis can be delayed, but almost all children are diagnosed by age 6. ?There is absolutely no scientific evidence that links autism and vaccines. ?Vaccinations are not the cause for the rise in ASD diagnosis. ?In fact the original study linking vaccines and autism has been retracted from the original medical journal that published it, and the doctor who has published the paper has been disbarred from medicine in the UK. ?The ABC news article stating this can be found here: ?ABC News

The CDC released new information about the autism epidemic on March 29, 2012. ?Now 1 out of 88 children are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ?This is up from 1 out of 110 children just a couple of years ago. ?We have a serious problem. ?Autism is the fastest growing childhood disorder to date.

Autism Statistics 2000 - 2008

I am updating the information with the new report. ?I left the information on the chart from 2006. The 2008 in the last column indicates the updated CDC data released March 29, 2012.

Yes, kids on the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) do have a disability, and yes some have a hard time making it on their own as adults. But not every child with an ASD is like that. Many are capable, willing, and wanting to go on to education after high school. Many also want to become productive adults with jobs that contribute to society. Many also want to get married, have kids, and get fully integrated socially with their neighborhoods. This is all possible, and Dan Marino is doing his part to give adults on the spectrum a hand up, not a hand out. Thank you Dan Marino!

The information in this blog changes periodically. I've been doing this blog for close to 10 years now, and while not a constant poster, I've been a steady one. The oldest posts are more personal, the middle posts are autism posts in the US and specifically the state of Washington, and all the newer posts will be in the UK and the US. At first I wanted to break it into 2 blogs, but autism info is usually pertinent irregardless of location, so one blog it stays in. I will create 2 new categories, UK and US if they are location dependent.

<span class="st_ybuzz_large" displayText="Yahoo!
